Things to know about President Trump’s Announcement to end DACA

1. Your DACA is valid until its expiration date.
DACA and work permits (Employment Authorization Documents) will remain valid until its expiration date. To determine when your DACA and work permit expires, look at your I-795 Approval Notice and the bottom of your Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
2. No new DACA applications will be accepted.
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) no longer will accept or process first-time applications after September 5, 2017.
3. DACA issuances and work permits expiring between now and March 5, 2018 must be submitted for renewal by October 5, 2017.
If you have a permit that will expire between now and March 5, 2018, you must apply for a two-year renewal of your DACA by Octb
4. Advance Parole to travel abroad is no longer available.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will no longer grant DACA recipients permission to travel abroad through Advance Parole. Any pending applications for advance parole will not be processed and DHS will refund any associated fees.

Members of Congress, lawyers for the petitioners, and others spoke to the press after the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral argument in United States v. Texas. The case challenges Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents(DAPA) program, which defers the departation of undocumented immigrants whose children are U.S. citizens or legal residents.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out on October 25th for the 2015 Spirit of La Hermandad Awards which took place at the Residence Inn in Oxnard!

We had a great time reconnecting with allies committed to advancing immigrants’ education and rights. Here at La Hermandad, we’re re-energized and ready to take our fight for social and economic justice to the next level.

Little girl shares immigration message with pope at DC parade

Today, leaders from La Hermandad were in Washington D.C. sending a message to Pope Francis and President Barack Obama on a more humane approach to immigration reform. Alicia Flores, executive director, escorted two youth to the nation’s capital to tell their story of anguish and heartbreak of family separation. Both children are U.S. citizens living in this country and their parents are from Mexico.

Read today’s Ventura County Star article on the youths journey to tell their story. Part of La Hermandad’s mission is to integrate immigrants to the larger community through educational initiatives such as civics, literacy, and computer classes. It also works to advocate for basic human rights by telling stories of real people caught in a broken immigration system. We invite you to support this effort through your participation in La Hermandad’s 10th Anniversary luncheon on October 25, 2015. Through your generous support, we’re able to continue our work to build a vibrant, inclusive, and prosperous community.

Alicia Flores, executive director of La Hermandad Hank Lacayo Youth and Family Center in Los Angeles, told the Washington Post her organization chose Sophie, with her parents’ permission, to deliver the drawing and note to Francis and hear their message. While meeting the pope might be a daunting task for the average person, Cruz didn’t have any problem approaching the leader of the Catholic Church.

“God made me like that,” she said, according to the Washington Post.
